Benjamin A.A. Ortega is the Managing Director of Kadaster St. Maarten, where he oversees the organisation’s work in land administration, digital mapping, and geospatial data services. Since his appointment in 2024, he has guided major improvements in GIS technology, service delivery, and coordination with government ministries to support a more reliable and transparent national spatial-data framework. With more than 20 years of experience in civil engineering, infrastructure management, and project leadership, Ortega previously held senior roles at the Harbour Group of Companies and the Ministry of VROMI. His early technical work in the Netherlands involved road-network planning, sewer-system management, and GIS implementation for municipalities—skills that now support Kadaster’s digital transformation. Ortega is a strong supporter of staff development and training in surveying, GIS, and emerging technologies. His professional background includes civil-engineering studies in the Netherlands and certifications in governance, project management, financial oversight, and change management, including Accredited Director (Acc. Dir.) status and Prosci Change Practitioner certification. He is committed to strengthening Kadaster as a transparent, service-driven institution that supports responsible land use, modern spatial planning, and the long-term development of St. Maarten.
